White Rice Done Right
Yes, I made a video on boring old white rice. Why? Well, it seems lots of folks are having a tough time with this. Heck, it takes some technique! Here’s everything you need to perfect this staple.
Spoiler alert: you’re going to need a rice cooker!
Ingredients
(serves 4+ with leftovers to use for a killer fried rice the next day)
- 2 cups rice
- 2 cups water*
- 2 tsp. salt
*Every rice cooker and type of rice is different, so I recommend following the rice/water ratio indicated on your rice’s packaging, and then reducing or increasing water ratio based on results.
Instructions:
- Thoroughly rinse your rice in cold water, repeating 3-4 times until rinse water runs clear.
- Let your rice soak for 20-30 minutes before doing one final rinse. Drain thoroughly, then measure out and pour in water.
- Sprinkle salt over the rice and start your rice cooker.
- When rice cooker is done, gently fluff rice with a fork and let it rest for at least another 10 minutes (ideally longer) before serving.
